Rick writes:I am an unemployed Senior Executive with 25 years of exceptional, diverse experience. I exhausted all resources and was at a loss of what to do next. Depression and a sense of hopelessness was certainly on the horizon. Then I was referred to Paul Lane. From the first moment of contact I knew I was in good hands with an experienced, effective and client-oriented counselor. Within the first week of working with him, he provided exceptional advice re: two interviews and helped me create an elegant letter of appreciation that both expressed appreciation and reiterated why I was the best for the position. This alone set me above the competitive noise. I've experienced the top outplacement, job search and recruiting firms in the US and I assure you Paul Lane provided me with a much greater return on my investment then all three put together. R.B. I genuinely appreciate the miraculous work that you did on my new resume which was relevant in landing me the job even before I was interviewed.
I was quite unhappy with my current job at the time and had several interviews (based on my own resumes that I'd done). Well, the potential new employers passed me up to go on and hire someone else instead of me.
I almost gave up hope and thought that I should just settle for less. Then you gave me interview questions about my life, talents, and experiences, and helped me to redo my resume.
You also had the knowledge and wisdom of what the employer might be looking for in an individual to hire.
The resume did the job - I went to my interview with the Mendocino Office of Education, and the minute my foot stepped in the door, their head supervisor told me, "We've already hired you. We took one look at your resume and decided we wanted you right away. But we're to do the interview anyway, for technical reasons."
I was very surprised and ecstatic at the same time! And I have been on the job of my dreams now, going on 10 years.
"Thank you so very, very much." I hope that you continue to share your wonderful knowledge in order to help others succeed as I've succeeded.
I began my career in the Workforce Development division of Goodwill Industries approximately five years ago. I started as a job coach and then as a fill-in for the Employment Services Specialist. That was when I was first introduced to Paul Lane, Senior Vocational Counselor.
Mr. Lane has mentored me through the years so that I perform at my highest standard when finding the disabled population (our primary clientele base) jobs in our community. He has been a wonderful source of information and support. His guidance and plethora of knowledge regarding the employment industry is shared with others in the weekly Job Club class that he offers to all DOR clients. This course effectively prepares the participants for the world of work. This class covers constructive job search methods; the importance of good interview practices, including grooming and hygiene and most importantly, how to retain the job once hired. I attended the Job Club for approximately two months when I started working in employment services field so that I would have an accurate portrayal of what our clients will face when they are conducting their job search activities.
Mr. Lane also developed an innovative and extremely useful Job Placement Checklist that is used with all of his clients and submitted monthly. This checklist is a guide towards the initial steps in starting job search activities. I shared this checklist with other counselors and have implemented this piece of documentation as a tool for others. Mr. Lane has a structured disciplined style, which serves the population he services very well. His mandatory Job Club and the Job Placement Checklist are great benefits and have lead many towards finding and keeping the job of their dreams.
Rebecca ReeseI wish to send you a note of thanks for allowing me the privilege of attending meetings of the Job Club.
My initial visits were as Support Staff for another. Then on days when a person that I support did not show up by attended independently.
I was not actively looking for employment. After attending an early November 2007 meeting, I walked into the office of a company that performs similar work to my present employer. There I requested a job application for an entry-level position. During the application and interview process I followed the procedures discussed at the Job Club meetings.
I did not get the position that I applied for, but I have accepted the position as Community Coordinator for L.I.F.E Services. During the application process, it became evident that this other position would actually fit me better, and, thanks to your Job Club, I had the skills and confidence to be considered for that position instead of the one I applied for. I now spend my time showing others how to search for unadvertised jobs, and keep meaningful employment. The training I received at your Job Club helped me to get this position, and provided me the tools to do an excellent job in my new office.
When you find a way that I can be of assistance do not hesitate to contact me. Once again, thank you for your efforts and consideration.
